Valentine Arts and Crafts

Here are a few arts and crafts for you to make for your sweeties on Valentine’s Day. To see more crafts like this, video how-tos, graphics to download, recipes, and more, go to http://familyfun.go.com/crafts  I will also add Valentine recipes to this month’s recipe blog. These crafts came from the family fun site.

Valentine Butterflies

Materials needed:

Sticks of gum
Licorice strings
Construction paper
Scissors
Heart stickers
Tape

Piece two pieces of string licorice between two sticks of gum, taping the top and bottom closed to secure the antennae in place.

Next, cut two heart-shaped wings from construction paper, write your valentine message on them, and secure them to the top stick of gum with a heart sticker. Add other stickers to give personality to your butterfly.

Lollipop Flowers

Materials needed:
Red and green construction paper or card stock
Scissors
Lollipop
Glue stick

From red construction paper, cut out a heart that’s just larger than the lollipop candy and glue it to the wrapper.

For the leaves, fold the green paper in half and cut out a leaf shape, leaving the two sides attached at the seam. Unfold the double leaf shape, coat the entire inside surface with glue, and fold it back over the lollipop stem, pressing to secure.

Cupid's Arrow

Materials needed:
Six-inch wooden skewer
Pack of gum
Gumdrop heart
Glue
Tissue paper

Simply stick a six-inch wooden skewer through a pack of gum and stab it with a gumdrop heart. Finish by gluing tissue paper strips to the end to create a feathery effect.

Ace of Hearts

Materials needed:
Pencil
Red card stock (one 8 1/2x11” piece should make about 8 cards)
Scissors
Black marker
Foam heart stickers

Use a pencil to trace around a playing card onto card stock, then cut out the traced shape.

On one side, write the letter A on 2 corners as shown (make one A upside down, as on a real playing card). Decorate with heart stickers and add a message like “You’re a real Ace” or “You’re an Ace in my book.” On the other side write who the card is to and from.

Friendship Blossoms

Materials Needed:
scrapbooking or card stock
scissors
lollipops
tape

For each, cut three heart-shaped petals, two leaves, and two flower centers from scrapbooking paper or card stock.

Poke a small hole in each, crease the petals as shown, and slide the pieces onto a lollipop stem. Tape the bottom to secure. I suggest you use those small round lollipops.
