Love Poem Contest--for Friday, February 4

Each Friday of this month I will give you one of the most famous love poems we’ve come to know and love. After the poem I will also give you some “love quotes,” which are also from famous people and famous sources. You tell me who made the quote or where it came from as some of the quotes will not have a specific author. Email me at the end of the month, after February 25, with all your answers for the month. I will number them for you. The person who has the most correct answers and gets them to me the fastest on Feb. 25, will win a special prize. Here goes:

How Do I Love Thee?
By Elizabeth Barrett Browning

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace,
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,-I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life!-and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Now here are your quotes for Feb. 4.

1.     1.  What a grand thing, to be loved!
What a grander thing still, to love!

2.    2   Love comforteth like sunshine after rain.

3.       Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast,
it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
